TECHNICAL INTERVENTIONS ON SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEMS
Why choose a single point of contact such as REVO?
REVO has developed specialist expertise in the renewable energy sector and in the design and installation of solar thermal systems, providing customers with a complete service covering installation, technical support and maintenance.
Having a single point of contact for the entire system and all related services offers tangible benefits to the end user, including significant time savings whenever technical intervention is required.
Thanks to their direct knowledge of each system’s specific characteristics, a single technical team can provide the fastest solution to any issues that may arise and assess the actual performance of the system against expected standards.
The extensive specialist experience of REVO technicians is combined with the benefit of reduced costs through economies of scale.
What experience has REVO gained over the years?
REVO has installed thousands of solar systems throughout Italy, including the islands.
The systems we have worked on include:
- Natural circulation systems
- Forced circulation systems
What does REVO’s complete service include?
The phases of the REVO intervention include:
- Feasibility study (to determine whether the solar system project is technically feasible and economically viable)
- Management and submission of all documentation required to obtain permits and incentives from public and private bodies (local authorities, grid operators for system connection, etc.)
- Custom system design
- System installation
- System testing and user training
- Support and maintenance
How does REVO determine the correct sizing?
When sizing a solar thermal system for domestic hot water production, the primary parameter is the number of users to be served, which allows a reliable estimate of daily hot water consumption.
This is generally calculated at approximately 50-60 litres per person per day at a temperature of 45°C.
In general, at least one square metre of collector area is allocated per user
By way of example, for a family of 4 people, 4-6 m2 of solar panels and a storage tank with a capacity of 200-400 litres are normally recommended.
In particular, the size of the storage tank is calculated taking into account that it must guarantee a minimum volume of 60-70 litres for each square metre of installed collector area.
Systems designed to support space-heating installations must instead be sized according to the characteristics of the heating system itself (operating temperature and heat-emitting surface area)
Does system sizing differ between Northern and Southern Italy?
Due to different levels of solar irradiation, a household of 3-4 people located in Northern Italy would generally require 4 m2 of solar panels and a storage tank with a capacity of 200-280 litres. For the same household of 4 people located in Southern Italy, 3.2 m2 of solar panels and a storage tank with a capacity of 150-200 litres are normally sufficient.
What does the maintenance service involve?
Examples of operations performed during maintenance of a solar thermal system include:
- Draining the storage tank
- replacing the anode
- Cleaning the hot water cylinder
- Cleaning the solar panels
- Checking the level of antifreeze fluid (glycol)
